Probably not much help, but my John Deere with a Kawasaki engine has a six wire regulator. One wire, Red, goes to a fusible link, then to the battery post of the starter solenoid, then to the battery + Positive. Two wires, Brown/White & Brown/Yellow, go to the engine stator. One wire, Brown, goes to the "discharge lamp" One wire, Black, goes to ...

The battery voltage did not increase with raise of rpm's. The the wires going to regulator show 20 volts I don't see the inline fuse. Any hints to it's location. Can it still be a fuse with the battery voltage not increasing and the ac voltage going to the regulator at 20 volts

How can I test the charging system to determine if the voltage regulator is bad or not. I can find no fuses or diodes. With volt meter attached to the battery I am getting no charge when the engine is running. Thanks for the help.
Battery not charging I have a Toro 42 in zero turn mower with a Kawasaki FR600V-AS05 engine, the engine is not charging the battery. I have replaced the regulator with no change, actually this is the second regulator.
There should be a brown connector near the engine blower shroud on the right side with 2 wires. That comes straight off your stator, hook up a muti meter and test what that is putting out. It should be over 12 because that is unregulated. I would also check how much is getting to the battery.

Description: This is an authentic Kawasaki replacement part manufactured for use with four stroke engines. The voltage regulator maintains the voltage output to the battery to keep the battery at a full charge, and to prevent over charging the battery, which can burn out the battery. The voltage regulator is sold individually.

You need to verify the charging system is not working before getting into the rec/reg - put a meter across the terminals of a fully charged battery and rev the engine to about 2500 RPM - the meter should climb to no more than about 14.8 volts DC - a bit more technical, you should test for AC voltage getting to the battery - AC will kill a battery. My theory is that it's best to start and idle it as little as possible if leaving for long periods. Unless you get the bike really hot (the oil not just coolant) it only really helps by charging the battery a little (not much with those darn lights!) and getting fresher fuel in the system.

Look for battery voltage to increase from the normal engine off voltage of about 11.5 to 12.5 (depending on state of charge) and see if it rises when the engine is running. It should go up to at least 14 volts. Your solenoid is not a part of the charging system. It is simply a heavy duty switch for switching the high current that the starter ... Apr 30, 2014 · My guess is it’s drawing too much amperage, but the troubleshooting should start with the battery and follow the circuit down to the starter. First, clean the battery connections, then check the point where the ground cable is attached to the frame and clean it, also. Have the battery tested for cranking amps, especially when hot. Battery Based on the voltages you provided, the charging system would seem to be fine at 14.5 volts, but the battery at 12.45 to 12.1 appears to be very low. A fully charged battery should be 12.7 or better. And the drop from 12.45 to 12.1 just turning on the key is a harbinger of a battery issue, not a charging issue.

A: Put a voltmeter across the battery. With the engine at full speed your voltmeter should be reading between 12 3/4 to 15 volts. If you are in that area, things are working fine and your battery will stay fully charged. This will also prove that the charging system will not supply electricity to the ignition system without the battery.

When the battery is warm, is has an adequate charge. The specific gravity of a fully charged battery is 1.265. Never allow the battery to freeze.
If you measured the battery terminals of the regulator and got battery voltage, it sounds as though the regulator is bad. If when running at full throttle you do not read above battery voltage and you have 13.5 in from the stator, the regulator is prolly bad. Battery voltage is measured with the engine off and the key switch off.
